چکیده

A general review is presented of our current understanding of the fine structure of the lens, its capsule, and zonular fibers, and illustrated with original material from the human lens. The principal points emphasized include the nature of the capsule as a laminated basement membrane; the relative paucity of extracellular space; the presence of interdigitating cell processes in the epithelium and fibers as xoell as "tight" cell membrane junctions; the progressive increase in cell fibrosity in older and more deeply situated lens areas. A bibliography relating to lens ultrastructure is provided.

Ontogeny of the eye of Caspian kutum (Rutilus frisii kutum) from prehatch to final larval stage

The present study examines the developmental stages of the eye retina in Caspian kutum during the pre-hatch stage to end of the larval stage. Fertilized eggs of Caspian kutum were obtained from Shahid Ansari Center for Reproduction of teleost fish (Guilan province, Iran). Sampling was done for one month until the larval stage completed and the yolk sac completely depleted. Samples were studied ...

Variations of the Normal Human Limbal Stem Cells Detected by In Vivo Confocal Microscopy

Background  To report normal variations of the limbal structures using in vivo laser scanning confocal microscopy. Methods: This was a retrospective study of fourteen eyes from 11 healthy individuals. Confocal imaging of cornea and limbus was performed using Heidelberg Retina Tomograph III Rostock Corneal Module. Results: The typical structure of the palisades of Vogt (POV) was detected ...

Cholesterol, phospholipid, and protein changes in focal opacities in the human eye lens.

PURPOSE Focal opacities are signs of early cataractogenesis in the human lens. They progress slowly over a lifetime and may be precursors of mature cataracts. The authors analyzed changes in proteins, phospholipids, and cholesterol in these opacities using in situ techniques: Raman microspectroscopy, filipin cytochemistry for cholesterol, and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). METHODS Hu...

Polygonal arrays of actin filaments in human lens epithelial cells. An aging study.

In order to determine the importance of lens actin filament configuration to lens accommodation, the pattern of actin filaments in the epithelium was studied in human lenses from different decades of life spanning the accommodative and non-accommodative years. Polygonal arrays of microfilaments were demonstrated in whole mounts of epithelium from normal and cataractous lenses using rhodamine ph...

Development of an Accommodation-Dependent Eye Model and Studying the Effects of Accommodation on Electron and Proton Dose Conversion Coefficients

Introduction International Commission on Radiological Protection (ICRP) has provided a comprehensive discussion on threshold dose for radiation-induced cataract in ICRP publication 116. Accordingly, various parts of the eye lens have different radio-sensitivities. Recently, some studies have been performed to develop a realistic eye model with the aim of providing accurate estimation of fluence...
